Nation’s First Campus-Wide 3-stream 802.11n Network

Renton, WA, April, 2012 – Renton School District in Washington state’s King County selected Integrated Media Technologies, Inc. (IMT) to implement Meraki’s MR24 cloud-controlled wireless access points to provide enterprise-class WiFi to all of Renton’s 16,000 students, faculty and staff. Now equipped with the nation’s first campus-wide 3-stream 802.11n network, Renton School District has it installed at 29 sites, including elementary, middle, and high schools in and around the city of Renton.

Pictured is Stosh Morency, Renton School District IT Director.

“We want to put new technology in the hands of the students,” explained Stosh Morency, Renton’s IT Director. “It’s a ‘bring your own device concept’ and by having the wireless network across all of our buildings, it opens the door for projects that were never an option before. For us as a school district, we want to provide access to all of the students, regardless of where they are in the buildings.”

“This was one of our biggest projects,” remarked Garth Gilmour, IMT’s VP Professional Services. “The deployment makes Renton the first school district to adopt the latest generation of WiFi, featuring 3-stream, 900 Mbps performance.” The award-winning Meraki Enterprise Cloud Controller centrally manages a total of 437 of Meraki’s high performance MR24 access points.

“New technology projects always have challenges,” added Morency, “but IMT and Meraki made it much easier to deal with. The Meraki tools made it easier to troubleshoot problems and the IMT team was totally committed to the success of the project.”

“Through IMT’s thorough research and exacting implementation, Meraki allows me to manage the network across the entire district, and I’m a team of one,” said Todd Baker, Network Administrator for Renton School District. “The capabilities of Meraki’s Cloud Controller are considerable. There’s one dashboard for everything, from provisioning APs to troubleshooting client issues.”

The Meraki MR24, an ultra high-performing 3-stream 802.11n access point, is ideal for dense classroom environments and high-bandwidth applications. Renton is deploying 437 access points, providing campus-wide coverage for its Computer on Wheels (COW) program, which provides classrooms with “COW carts” to stream video, data and other media.

With IMT’s help, Renton leveraged Meraki’s contract with the Washington Learning Source (WLS), which facilitates deployments for Washington state school districts. Prior to selecting Meraki, Stosh Morency and Todd Baker carefully evaluated a number of networking vendors, testing WiFi range, throughput, signal strength, and interference.

The ease of use and reliability of Meraki’s cloud controller impressed Baker. “I’ve had a controller go bad on me in the past. With Meraki’s cloud controller, I’ll never have to deal with that again,” Baker said. IT Director Stosh Morency added, “And the lifetime warranty of the products was a key factor in our decision making process.”

“Tomorrow’s Needs Today: Making the Argument for Upgrade”

Las Vegas, NV, NAB 2012 — Leading liberal arts institution, Molloy College, of Long Island, NY, will be participating in the Broadcast Education Association panel discussion during NAB, “Tomorrow’s Needs Today: Making the Argument for Upgrade,” on Wednesday, April 18 at The Las Vegas Hilton. Molloy College first met with Integrated Media Technologies, Inc. (IMT) at NAB 2011 to determine the best way to upgrade their SD production facilities to full HD specs.

As media technologies continue to evolve and previous generations become obsolete, communications programs in small schools are reaching the threshold of maintaining traditional curriculum while deciding what new media to adopt and use. The BEA panel discusses strategies in proposing new media upgrades and the struggles of adopting a new program. Panelists are currently upgrading or have recently upgraded their traditional communications curriculum.

Moderator: James Cohen, Molloy College

Panelists: Matthew Tullis, Ashland University, & Thomas Kenny, Molloy College

“We chose IMT after speaking with Greg Pocali at NAB 2011 last year in Las Vegas,” explained Thomas Kenny, Molloy Adjunct Instructor. “We went to NAB to research gear and materials needed to transfer our SD studio to HD. This included cameras, switchers, storage devices, etc. After meeting with Greg, he pointed us in the right direction and told us exactly what we needed for a transfer. Greg is extremely knowledgeable as an engineer and we felt comfortable with him and the staff at IMT.”

“We are upgrading our facility,” he continued, “because it is in standard-definition and at this day and age, everyone should have a high-definition facility. If my iPad can shoot video in HD, then the studio for the students should have that capability as well. We plan on using the facility for educational purposes to help our students get a career in media production. Also, this could [allow] students to start their own productions outside of class for news programs and various shows.”

Media Production Curriculum

Molloy College has had a Media Production Curriculum for several years. Over the last two years, the college has changed its curriculum to match the change in technology. Last year, Molloy developed and implemented a brand new minor in New Media. This includes combining web and television – students learn how to create apps, design a website, and create web television while utilizing all mediums (iPad, Internet, television, mobile device, etc.).

Thomas Kenny concluded, “The discussion for me is based on two areas. First is the need to have an updated, high-definition facility for our students to nurture successful careers in media/new media production. This is the area where we worked closely with Integrated Media Technologies, Inc. The second phase of the discussion, again from the Molloy College perspective, is updating the curriculum to meet today’s standards. In today’s media culture, students creating film/television also need to include social media, websites, apps, etc., to the mix in order to have successful careers. We are speaking about how we designed the courses for the Major & Minor. Plus, we will tie in how both the new media Major/Minor uses the updated HD facility.

WHAT: “Tomorrow’s Needs Today: Making the Argument for Upgrade”

WHEN: Wednesday April 18, 2012 12:00pm – 1:15pm

WHERE: Las Vegas Hilton, Conference Room 1

IMT at NAB 2012, April 16-18, Las Vegas

IMT will be hosting a number of technology briefings in their hospitality suite on the second floor of the Renaissance Hotel located at 3400 Paradise Road. The hotel is conveniently located across the street from the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Essential for the Successful Future of Teams, Leagues, Universities & Associations

Los Angeles, CA, February, 2012 — Integrated Media Technologies, Inc. (IMT) has announced a new Sports Digital Asset Management Service specifically designed for the athletics industry. For sports content owners and producers, having a digital asset management strategy has become an essential part of doing business and affects virtually every aspect of the organization’s operations and future multi-media ROI opportunities.

“A well designed digital asset management strategy gives a sports organization the ability to properly manage rich media assets” explained Mike Braico, EVP of Sales at IMT. “Think life cycle of the production process, including acquisition, editing and distribution for all digital media files and the underlying metadata.”

IMT worked with the Tennis Channel to design and build a new state-of-the-art file-based workflow, which allows their broadcast operations, editorial, graphics, and post-production teams to share and archive content.

“Growth at our network required an expanded approach to production workflow and storage,” remarked Dean Hadaegh, Senior Vice President of Broadcast Operations and CTO, Tennis Channel. “IMT quickly targeted our specific needs and came up with an across-the-board strategy that allowed us to re-design our operation without any downtime.”

IMT’s Sports Digital Asset Management Service takes advantage of new technologies and distribution outlets through a centralized efficient digital workflow. It also enables real time collaboration and coordination throughout the organization, capitalizing on video assets through increased output, accelerated operations, and optimum utilization of staff.

“Our new Sports Digital Asset Management Service focuses on protecting video assets for the long term,” emphasized Tom McGowan, IMT VP of Business Development, “and provides our clients with the ability to create new marketing capabilities and revenue streams through increased advertising inventory, sponsorship opportunities, in-venue promotions, social media exposure and e-commerce platforms across broadcast, web and mobile distribution platforms.”

IMT’s Sports Digital Asset Management Service drives new branding opportunities and significantly increases the ability to reach fans on any platform, and anywhere they want to enjoy content. As an internal competitive benefit, Sports Digital Asset Management Service also enables management to provide the coaching staff and players with the latest tools and innovations for video capture and display in the locker rooms, coaches’ offices, team meeting rooms/theaters, family lounges and with minor league and remote scouting operations.

Rhozet and EMC Isilon Scale-out NAS Essential in New Transcoding Workflows with Big Data Storage

Los Angeles, CA, January, 2012 – Integrated Media Technologies, Inc. (IMT) has designed and implemented at Burbank’s Visual Data Media Services (VDMS) a new high performance transcoding system and shared storage workflow. Key components in the new VDMS install are a Rhozet Carbon Coder transcode farm from Harmonic, Inc., combined with EMC Isilon’s no compromise scale-out NAS to create a large private cloud for asset management services.

Pictured in Burbank, CA is John Trautman, CEO of Visual Data Media Services.

John Trautman, CEO at VDMS, explained, “With IMT’s guidance, we have launched the backend infrastructure for our new and proprietary asset management system that provides global broadcast file distribution and web publishing of all our clients’ digital assets. With an optimized transcode platform and a large private cloud for storage, it makes managing and moving assets a straightforward and automated process.”

Visual Data Media Services has earned a solid reputation for quality, service and dependability by providing integrated end-to-end post-production solutions for over 15 years. To meet the ever-evolving needs of television, feature film, and new media clients, VDMS focuses on the seamless repurposing and distribution of content for all media outlets, including Domestic Syndication, Network Broadcast, International Distribution, Home Video, Video-On-Demand, the Internet, and Mobile Devices.

As the industry transitions from physical asset inventories and distribution to digital catalogs and deliveries, it is increasingly difficult to manage assets and meet tightened delivery windows. With a multitude of file formats, codec’s, and non-standard delivery platforms to deal with, the traditional methods no longer worked.

“We met with VDMS to determine the best of breed solution that would meet their workflow and performance needs,” explained IMT’s Jason Kranitz. “Rhozet Carbon Coder was the most flexible of the transcoding products and fit their model nicely. For the most comprehensive storage solution, Isilon provided the scalability and flexibility, plus the ultra-performance of their new X200 nodes.”

According to IMT’s Director of Architecture Jose Palencia, “The EMC Isilon system at VDMS accelerates high-concurrent and sequential throughput media applications, speeding access to massive amounts of critical data, dramatically reducing costs and complexity.”

The new Harmonic Rhozet and EMC Isilon X200 installation at VDMS enables clients to manage and distribute their content in a secure online environment. Key features include customizable metadata schemas, file downloads, push files via Aspera, Smartjog and Signiant, full online asset screenings, and unlimited user access for client screenings to assist in licensing content. All major formats and codec’s are supported.

“We realized we had to completely redesign our operation if we wanted to satisfy our clients and continue to grow at our current rapid pace,” remarked VDMS’s John Trautman. “After many meetings with vendors at trade shows and interviewing a number of consulting companies, IMT clearly stood out. They fully understood our complex workflows and gave us the media and storage networking solutions that are working flawlessly. Obviously, we were under a time crunch, but after IMT’s strategy was finalized, we were able to get the entire project turned around in less than 60 days.”

Los Angeles, CA, September, 2011 — Integrated Media Technologies Inc. (IMT) has completed a new 120TB SAN storage system and expanded fiber networking for LA’s Nomad Editing Company. The project was designed specifically by IMT to satisfy the considerable needs of a high volume, editorial, sound and graphics services company that caters to major television commercials, advertising and feature films. At the heart of the Nomad installation is Quantum’s StorNext filesystem, ActiveRAID ES Storage and QLogic Fibre Switches serving as a primary tier #1 storage feeding multiple Final Cut Pro on Mac and Autodesk Smoke on Linux workstations.

“IMT works differently than other vendors who just sell products,” explained Scott Carleton, VP at Nomad, whose clients include Pepsi, Visa, TD Bank, Chevy, Nike, Hyundai, Proctor & Gamble, Apple, and Gillette. “IMT talks to you about your workflow, how you need to work today, and how you would like to work in the future. They partner with you from the business side and the workflow side, but they concentrate on the workflow first and engineer a complete system from there. Their team came in and did a thorough evaluation of our needs and came up with a well thought out redesign of our facility.”

“Growth at Nomad has been tremendous,” explained IMT’s EVP of Broadcast Chan Mahon, “and they were facing considerable networking and data storage limitations. Rather than further pushing their existing setup, we suggested an entirely new scalable system that can grow incrementally as Nomad grows. The results were so compelling that they suggested it to one of their key clients who also needed a major upgrade and they opted for a similar system design. Now that Nomad and their key client are on the same platform, there is much greater interoperability between the two for real-time daily activities.”

Scott Carleton added, “The fact that we are using the same systems and talking the same language, means that we can bounce things back and forth between the support teams and the IT staff. We now have two separate teams working on the same projects, but sharing media more efficiently. In a sense it ties us that much closer, because we are not working on separate islands.”

As the leading Quantum StorNext systems integrator for media and entertainment, IMT acts as both a technology and business partner with clients. “We have a strategic relationship with both Quantum’s software and tape hardware business units that allows IMT to provide solutions that are highly optimized for performance,” said Jason Kranitz, VP/Sales at IMT. “The combination of the StorNext Filesystem with Active Storage is an unbeatable solution for big data requirements.”

IMT built and configured the Quantum StorNext SAN that is the central shared storage pool used for all post production HD and SD Workflows at the Nomad editing facility in Santa Monica, CA (additional offices are in New York and London). The foundation of the Nomad SAN is StorNext Metadata Controllers with ActiveRAID ES Storage Systems and Qlogic Fibre Channel Switches. IMT Professional Services were contracted by Nomad to provide workflow consulting, project management, implementation, training, documentation, and ongoing 24/7 support.

Comprehensive Solutions Include Security and Software for the Mobile Workplace

Los Angeles, CA, July, 2011 – Integrated Media Technologies, Inc. (IMT) has announced new managed services for tablet computers and mobile devices. IMT’s Mobile Device Managed Services (MDMS) offers IT organizations the ability to increase workforce productivity with comprehensive solutions that meet enterprise business objectives for security, software management, and application development. These Managed Services are designed to maximize the value of tablet computers and other mobile devices across an enterprise.

IMT’s new Mobile Device Managed Services include:

Mobile device order procurement and processing

Wireless service activation

Configuration of mobile devices with customized profiles

Security for protection of corporate assets

Application and data migrations

Repair and loaner devices

Help Desk Support with instructions and data recovery

“The mobile device revolution of the post-PC era is real,” said Mike Braico, EVP of Sales at IMT. ”The number of enterprise tablet deployment requests (500 units or more) IMT has received is promising. I think companies are finding use cases where tablets and mobile devices are more appropriate and cost effective for their workforce than PCs. We are seeing the most interest in medical, law enforcement, and sales force automation market segments. In addition, the number of requests we are receiving for tablet operating system software development is increasing, too. I know this will make many PC veterans uneasy but I can see it happening right before my eyes.”

As an authorized Apple Value Added Reseller, IMT’s new MDMS is prepared to bring mobile devices to a wide variety of industries. Tablets support Mobile Device Management, giving businesses the ability to manage scaled deployments of mobile devices across organizations. Integrated Media Technologies gives IT departments the ability to securely enroll tablets in an enterprise environment, then remotely configure and update settings, monitor compliance with corporate policies, and deliver tight control over all managed mobile devices.

Academy Award-Nominated Feature Film and Animation Studio Calls on IMT to Deploy Isilon Scale-Out NAS to Consolidate End-to-End Production Workflow, ... more

Academy Award-Nominated Feature Film and Animation Studio Calls on IMT to Deploy Isilon Scale-Out NAS to Consolidate End-to-End Production Workflow, Simplifying Big Data Management to Accelerate Workflow Productivity

Los Angeles, CA, June, 2011 – Integrated Media Technologies, Inc. (IMT) has announced that LAIKA, the studio that produced the Academy Award-nominated Coraline, has deployed EMC Isilon scale-out NAS as the primary storage platform for its end-to-end animation and computer graphics (CG) workflow, simplifying big data management to increase artist collaboration and accelerate project completion.

LAIKA's stop-motion film, Coraline

LAIKA and Focus Features, responsible for Coraline, are re-teaming for LAIKA’s next two projects. The first of the duo, ParaNorman, will be released nationwide in August, 2012. Following the groundbreaking Coraline, ParaNorman, directed by Sam Fell and Chris Butler, is only the second stop-motion animated feature to be made in 3D. In the comedy thriller, a small town comes under siege by zombies and calls on misunderstood local boy Norman, who is able to speak with the dead.

During LAIKA studio’s production and post-production of Coraline, they faced a need to expand quickly and to considerably upgrade their storage capacity. With one facility in Portland, Oregon and another 20 miles away in Hillsboro, and their second much-anticipated animated feature already in pre-production, LAIKA didn’t want to change course and invest in an expanded brick and mortar data center. Instead, they called on Integrated Media Technologies (IMT) to design and implement two portable 20-foot storage containers to house all of their new data transfer and storage solutions.

As a result, LAIKA has deployed more than a petabyte of EMC Isilon scale-out NAS as the primary storage platform for its end-to-end animation and computer graphics (CG) workflow, simplifying their huge data management to increase artist collaboration and accelerate project completion.

Working with IMT and using Isilon’s SmartPools software application, LAIKA has unified three performance tiers into a single file system, consolidating its compositing, computer graphics and stop motion workflows onto a single, shared storage resource, streamlining production operations and improving IT efficiency.

Jonathan Rozes, LAIKA director of IT

“We need our artists focused on the creative process, not waiting for render jobs to finish or content to migrate, so a single, shared storage resource that can accommodate a range of access patterns and performance requirements is a game-changer for us,” said Jonathan Rozes, director of IT, LAIKA. “Before Isilon, we had to manage our workflows separately, which made management a hassle and limited our productivity. By moving to Isilon, we’ve consolidated our entire production operation on one, simple solution, which not only minimized management, but helped expand our bandwidth for new projects.”

LAIKA features two divisions: LAIKA’s Entertainment division, which produces animated feature films and shorts, including Coraline, and LAIKA/house, the commercial division behind animated campaigns for Frito Lay, M&M’S and Planters. Prior to Isilon, LAIKA’s traditional NAS system segregated its range of workflows across disparate file systems, complicating management, slowing application performance and limiting artist collaboration.

“IMT has an excellent understanding of the feature film industry, and animation in particular, ” explained Rozes. ”After we evaluated competitive proposals, IMT asked the most intelligent questions and came up with a solution that was the best fit for us. The fact that they decided to go with Isilon was a reflection of their knowledge of the industry and what our needs were.”

Working with IMT, LAIKA deployed three tiers of Isilon scale-out NAS – the high-performance 5400S for its IOPS-intensive compositing workflow, the 10000X-SSD for metadata-intensive computer graphics applications, and the 12000X for highly concurrent stop motion effects. Using SmartPools, LAIKA has unified these three performance tiers into a single file system, simplifying management to less than one full-time equivalent (FTE) and unifying all of its production operations on a single, shared pool of storage.”

During the production and post-production of Coraline, LAIKA faced a situation where their facilities were both in Portland and 20 miles away in Hillsboro. With their second animated feature already in pre-production, they didn’t want to change course and invest in an expanded brick and mortar data center. Instead, they called on IMT to design and implement two portable 20-foot storage containers, housing all of their new storage solutions.

“IMT designed our new data centers and helped us through that complex implementation process,” explained Jonathan Rozes. ”Our most critical asset is the animation and CG artists, and the more iteration they can get in a fixed period of time, the better the film looks and the better it is for the studio. Having an integrator that grasps high performance, massive data storage and a reliable infrastructure is essential. IMT understood the sensitivity and pressure of any kind of disruption, and got everything set up quickly and made the transition as seamless as possible.”

Using Isilon’s cost-efficient NL-Series in combination with Isilon’s asynchronous replication application SyncIQ, LAIKA can backup its projects to a secure, highly reliable off-site cluster, ensuring maximum data availability and business continuity in the event of data loss or disaster.

“Efficient artist collaboration is key to great production in today’s media industry and with the influx of big data – created by advanced CG techniques, new media formats and more – leading media companies now have unprecedented opportunities for collaboration and creativity,” said Sam Grocott, vice president of marketing, Isilon. “By using Isilon scale-out NAS to consolidate its entire production workflow and scale its storage resources in-line with artists’ needs, LAIKA is seizing the big data opportunity and leading the way in a new era of media and entertainment.”

“Coraline is a landmark work of art in the history of animation,” commented Mike Braico, EVP of Integrated Media Technologies. ”Animation is a passion for us at IMT and working with LAIKA was both a challenge and a dream come true. We are looking forward to their upcoming feature, which is sure to be as groundbreaking.”

Los Angeles, CA – May 25, 2011. Grover Cleveland High School’s Media Academy kicked off their annual fundraising campaign goal of $100,000 with a $5,000 donation from Integrated Media Technologies, Inc. The check was presented at a monthly advisory board meeting to instructors Evelyn Seubert and James Gleason with Media Academy founder Cathee Cohen. Industry companies in attendance included ABC and Modern Videofilm.

From the left: Al Hart (EVP Engineering Modern Videofilm), James Gleason (Media Academy Coordinator), Mike Braico (EVP Sales, Integrated Media Technologies, Inc.), Evelyn Seubert (Media Academy Teacher), Cathee Cohen (Media Academy Founder)

According to Mike Braico, Co-Founder of IMT, “the Media Academy is a shining star in the LAUSD and they need the support of private businesses. Many companies have benefited from the film and television industry in our area and it’s time to give back. They are training the next generation of media and entertainment professionals.”

The school has seen its share of challenges in the midst of LAUSD’s $408 million budget deficit. According to Cohen, “The Media Academy gives students from a disadvantaged Title 1 LAUSD school the opportunity to learn traditional moviemaking, digital, and audio-visual communication skills along with survival skills they’ll need to land jobs in the areas of film, television and Internet content creation.”

The Media Academy is an internationally-known program with students that have gone on to the most prestigious film and media schools around the country. Their films have won over 100 local, national and international awards including a Student Emmy, a United Nations Global Issue Award and first place at the Harvard-Westlake Film Festival for a film which was screened at the Cinerama Dome and hosted by Oscar winner Kathryn Bigelow and Oscar-nominee Jason Reitman. The Media Academy’s Teen International Media Exchange (TIME) program has taken students to Korea, Scotland and Belize to work on collaborative video projects with foreign students. TIME recently won the 2010 California Teachers Association Peace and Justice Student Activist Award for its work raising money for a computer center in Sierra Leone and activism against child soldiers. The Media Academy was chosen in 2011 to be the pilot program for the Breaking Boundaries Digital Storytelling project, which brings together students from the disabled and able-bodied communities to tell their stories of struggle and triumph.

“This is only the beginning of our fundraising goal of $100,000 and we are grateful to IMT for being the first,” says Seubert. For more information on how to donate, please contact Evelyn Seubert.

In 2008, Adelson launched the Oklahoma City Thunder’s broadcasting department and digital media operations. As Senior VP and Executive Producer, he managed the daily operations for the NBA’s newest franchise, overseeing high definition television and radio game broadcasts, and the organization’s digital production facilities.

Before joining NBA Entertainment, Adelson worked for 10 years as a sports anchor, reporter, producer and writer at network television affiliates in Phoenix, AZ, Hartford, CT, Salt Lake City, UT and Wilmington, NC. He has also worked as a consultant for industry leading sports media organizations and is a sought after speaker for national conferences and advanced media forums.
